What inspires me

The colours of  lichen growing on rocks in remote volcanic black sand beaches. The storms and changing weather conditions of the North Atlantic coast and its constant dance of light and clouds. The beauty of the texture of an ancient tree's bark. Witnessing the landscape expand in front of me as I approach the boundary of a forest and walk into an open moor that is framed by the shape of distant mountains.  Exploring mountains, trees and water aimlessly.

Photography has allowed me to translate the sensations that natural spaces awake in me and create images that somehow merge those sensations with the landscape.

In my early days I explored self-portraits through dreamlike and mysterious reflections that looked for the stories and emotions that lie beyond the surface. My photography has been said to be about emotional and intuitive experience, a vision beyond the veil of our conscious thoughts. I think that vision led me to experiment with the intuitive movement and slow shutter speeds so common in my images, to represent things that were more felt than thought.
